Kyle is often referred to as our resident Superhero, not only because of his incredible physical and mental abilities, but also because of his endless desire to do good in the world and support others who are struggling. A Personal Trainer for over two years, Kyle (CSEP-CPT) graduated from the NAIT Personal Fitness Trainer Diploma in 2017 with the goal of using his skills and knowledge to help others find a deeper sense of physical and mental health through fitness and exercise.
He explains: “I want to be a fitness trainer to help enrich the lives of others by by teaching them the importance of physical activity and healthy living. I not only want to help people improve their physical well-being but to help them improve their confidence and make them feel good about themselves.”
Kyle’s deep passion for making the world a better place is central to his entire approach in fitness programming. He spent two years working as Lead Fitness Trainer with DiversiFIT, a non-profit program designed to create integrative family fitness opportunities for Autistic people and their families/caregivers. He has also been actively involved in seeking out and building new fitness opportunities for other marginalized groups in our area, and is particularly committed to creating accessible fitness options for persons living with addictions and mental health disorders.
But Kyle isn’t all work- he definitely has his playful side as well. Whether it be chatting about his favourite superhero comic character, the dark and mysterious Batman, or playing around with the young children who are near and dear to his heart, Kyle is always seeking to make a personal connection with everyone around him. He has a love for art and theatre, and even thinks he might have considered a career in acting had fitness not stolen his attention. When it comes to music, Kyle enjoys styles that make him feel motivated. His current favourite song is a track called “Indestructible” by the heavy metal band, Disturbed. “It’s a great song to work out to because it really gets the adrenaline pumping.”
While Kyle has had many challenges in his life, he takes great pride in being able to rise above them and in wanting to make his mark on the world. It’s not surprising that one of his favourite quotes is “Nothing is impossible. Even the word is I’m Possible” (Audrey Hepburn).
He tells us: “The greatest words in the English language are: Yes. I. Can.” By role modelling that resilience, Kyle’s clients often note how inspired they are to work harder and push through the difficult moments.
Jason, who has been regularly training with Kyle for over a year, notes: “Before I started with Kyle, I was insecure and unsure about my ability to lift weights and be physically active. Now, a year later, I feel strong and confident in my strength and always know that Kyle will push me to try harder and challenge myself more with every session. He is professional, knowledgeable, personable and makes the experience fun.”
We are so grateful to have Kyle on our team, and can’t wait to see all the amazing things he will do for our community and Edmonton’s as a whole. Welcome Kyle!
